What to expect at your first appointment?

Congratulations!! Your pregnancy test was positive; you are going to be a mom now.

Your first practitioner appointment is in the loop now. Get ready for it. Here’s how to prepare and what to expect at your first prenatal appointment.

Your practitioner will ask you about the following:

  • Your general health, allergies and medical/ chronic issues if any.
  • He will also ask you about your family’s medical history as he has to check if anybody from your family is suffering from any kind of hereditary condition.
  • Your periods- For how long they last and if they are regular or not.
  • When the first day of your last period was in order to determine your due date.
  • Any weird symptoms or problems you’ve noticed since your last menstrual period.
  • Other problems including sexually transmitted infections.
  • Details about your last pregnancies.

When to make an appointment?
Your first prenatal appointment usually takes place in the second month of getting pregnant. It is between the 6th and 8th week. You may be familiar with the basics, but don’t hesitate to call your practitioner’s office if you need to brush up.

Put down your questions:
In the excitement of that first prenatal appointment, lots of moms-to-be forget to ask the major questions. Make a list of them beforehand and don’t forget to bring it with you during your appointment.

Various tests you will undergo:

  • Rhesus
  • Urine Examination
  • Blood Sugar Test
  • STD Tests
  • Blood Tests
  • And a few more.

To give you the best possible care, your practitioner will want to know a lot about you. The first prenatal appointment is the time for your practitioner to get up to speed on your health history and fill you in on how to care for yourself and your growing baby.
